USA advances over Brazil in shootout

If you stayed glued to the tube and watched the entire game, props to you. Because for this country, the excitement came in the first and last two minutes of the Women’s World Cup match in Germany between USA and Brazil.

A humid 86 degree day beat down on the ladies as they fought back and forth the entire game for the comfort of a lead. After USA lost to Sweden last week, my siblings and I grimaced thinking about facing Brazil, who had won 19 games straight. But by the USA winning 5-3 in penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie, Ali Krieger’s final kick sealed the deal.

As entertaining as this game was, it was equally shocking. Unforgettable sports moments, like Abby Wambach’s goal in the 122nd minute, will go down in history. Here’s Wambach capturing the relentlessness of her team with her header in the final moments of the game:
